Essential Oil
We distill two
varieties of lavender and offer a unique look at their wonderfully
different aromas through our essential oils and hyrdosols.
The varieties
we offer are...
Distilling
Lavender
The flowers (top 15" of the flower stems) are cut when at least
50% of the flowers are open. They are placed in a large stainless steel
container with a lid. A hole in the middle of the lid is connected to
a condenser where the water and oil from the flower that is liberated
by the injected stem condences. The resulting oil and hydrosol
run out of the condencer and are collected in a special container which
allows for the easy removal of the floating oil. The process takes about
4 hours. The yield of oil from each variety varies wildly with English
lavender producing the least and Grosso the most (about 1% yield by
weight).
